July 27 sees the start of Empowered Villager Week here at Grace Village.
Part of our 8 Little Villagers program, the week will see a range of activities exploring the development of our villager’s social and emotional skills.
What is an Empowered Villager?
This villager understands his or her own feelings and is empathetic to others.
Kind and caring (peer support relationships) and at the same time is focused on self-care (health and relaxation), and being the best version of a villager he or she can be (personal best, personal potential, focus, not comparing to others, persistence, always learning with a growth mindset).
Striving forward in life knowing that a person is in charge of their responses and their choices and their emotions (self-regulating)
What is “Positive Living Skills”?
Positive Living Skills is a program at Grace Village which believes that every child has the ability to reach their own unique potential and that every child in today’s world must learn proactive and practical ways to look after their own mental wellbeing.
If this learning begins in Early Childhood and continues through Primary School, then when children are ready to transition into High School they have developed a large understanding of how they think and feel, and they can create long term habits for how to calm themselves when feeling stressed, and they have tools to apply to help them to self-direct their thoughts, feelings and behaviours toward a positive life experience.
Starting the Positive Living Skills now for our Tiny Humans allows the children to build a foundation for their social and emotional wellbeing.
Who is Possa Bill?
Possa Bill is our puppet mascot, who is a friend in every room. Possa Bill is at the children’s level in the classroom, as comfort for children to seek in times of need whether they are sad or happy.
There are six concepts that our friend Possa Bill encourages: highlights, feelings, focus, cooperation, relaxation amd self-esteem.
Through these areas, he is a huge role model for the children and guides them to understand these concepts.
What you need to know for Empowered Villager week
Children are invited to wear their Pyjama’s for the week as Positive Living Skills focuses on Relaxation.
What is more relaxing than wearing your Pyjamas?
Possa Bill Colouring Competition
Your children will be given a ‘Possa Bill colouring in’ which we ask you to encourage your child to colour in.
These colouring in’s will go in the running for winning our colouring-in competition (each room will have a winner picked out).
While doing this colouring in don’t forget to discuss our friend Possa Bill.
We would love for you to share your family’s highlights (things that make us happy) by bringing in a photo of your highlights or sending your photos through on the app.
We will be creating a highlight gallery in the indoor play area for the children to see and interact with.
So what are your families highlights? Going to the beach? Walking the dog? Family movie night?
